Bob Stokes – September 2, 1915 – August 20, 2000

Folks,

Today is my dad’s 97th Birthday. He has been gone 12 years now and we miss him dearly. Each day I strive to gain the level of qualities of my dad, but that will always be an uphill battle. His impeccable social and people skills were superb. Material things beyond basic living were of little importance to him. His love for people were some of his greatest qualities.

Dad never missed a Bottineau Memorial day parade either. For years he carried “Old Glory” the American flag. He was a die hard WW II American Veteran. If the American flag wasn’t welcome, neither was he of which he was noted for protesting for, several times too, with success.

Dad’s Middle name

Robert Dusinius (Petterson) Stokes

Personal reply from Neola

Gary,

I remember it because people were wondering about the name/why it was your dad’s middle name/etc.  I thought maybe it was the Norwegian word for “twelve”.  I asked Mom about this; she said it means “dozen”, so your dad was the child who made a dozen for Carl and Bertha.

I finally took the time to check for the correct spelling.  It is Dusinius.

Yes, Dad was number 12 and made a dozen. His twin sister Margaret was number 11.  With the twins, dads mother had 5 children in 3 years (1912-1915) Olga 1912, Emil 1913, Elvina 1914 and Dad/Margaret 1915. It is understandable why she died 7 months after Dad/Margaret were born. Following her death, dad was sent live with the Stokes’, Margaret & Olga with family in Canada and Elvina with the Jelleberg family, neighbors.  They were maybe spread out in their childhood days, but were a very close family in their adult years.
