FARGO – Olympic gold medalist Billy Mills will speak at 7 p.m. Nov. 6 in the Memorial Union Great Room as part of North Dakota State University’s Native American Heritage Month festivities.

Mills won gold in the 10,000-meter race during the 1964 Olympics in Tokyo.

Mills was raised on the Pine Ridge Reservation, S.D., as part of Oglala Lakota, one of seven subtribes of the Lakota people.

He earned a track scholarship to the University of Kansas and later served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

The presentation is free and open to the public.

Vickie’s comments:
I   somehow recall the name Billy Mills,  the spring of he year
was to be at the DHS gym speaking.
The coaches and guys involved  sports were interested.

side note,
My dad did not promote after school sports or  extra curricular
activities.

He believed we got enough physical activity working the farm, cattle,
barn work,
hauling bales etc.

Perhaps also, I  just was not interested in  PE or playground athletics.
the last one chosen……… I had no depth perception. Lol

I sought  individual sports which developed  into
passion for riding horse, necessary to roundup cattle..
